Mission Parijat

It started with “Mission Prabhughat” in March 2015, from Prabhu Ghat in Varanasi. Temsutula Imsong , Darshika Shah, Shreyas Singh and a few others cleaned up this Ghat. This was turned into a regular volunteer mobilization effort which brought together youth for a cause which would contribute to Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan. This effort received massive response nationally and Hon. Prime Minister of India , Shri Narendra Modi ji also lauded the efforts put in by the team.

Persistence with the cleaning and continuous night vigils turned Prabhu Ghat into a spot much visited from a Ghat which was earlier a space to defecate. Along with regular cleaning through crowd sourcing, Kashi Debates were also held regularly. These debates were a medium to inspire confidence leading to personality development in the youth who participated.

As the number of the volunteers grew, it was decided to take up bigger challenges. This led to regular cleaning and refilling of Gauri Kund at Kedar Ghat Varanasi. #MissionPrabhughat was renamed ” #MissionParijat ” after the Parijat flower which blooms only at night. Mission “Parijat” was indicative of the resolve to be harbingers of hope when there was none. As #MissionParijat evolved into a bigger movement, work was started at Babua Pandey Ghat in Scorching summer. A Ghat which was know for filth and stink, was turned into a riverfront where people could come to swim, play , sit and meditate.

The Team received massive response from all over the globe and they were also invited by the Prime Ministers Office to meet him when he visited Varanasi. The work on Babua Pandey Ghat continues till today.

During Monsoons the team undertook cleaning of #Sonebhadrakund in Ravindrapuri, Varanasi. All the while maintaining their presence at Babua Pandey Ghat through regular cleaning drives. It took three months to transform Sonebhadra Kund after which it was handed over to locals (sadly, they are yet to realize its importance).

#MissionParijat continues at Ghazipur , Mokochung, Varanasi, Gonda, Lucknow, Jalandhar , Hoshiarpur, with volunteers setting standards in leadership and enterprise.
