Objective
Two young women from Varanasi, both in their 20s – Temsutula Imsong and Darshika Shah of team Sakaar Sewa Samiti decided to take up the task of cleaning Prabhu Ghat, one of the filthiest ghats in Varanasi, place which is the constituency of Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi. They created hashtag seeking volunteers for the cleaning of the ghats.
Mass Support
The hashtag #MissionPrabhughat has generated over 30 lakh tweets in the last one month. Many volunteers joined up the cause of the that was cleaned up. This created awareness among the locals and they also gathered in unity. The tweet took many of the local volunteers and also volunteers far away to join the cause. Many people arrived on the location and themselves helped to clean up the ghat.
Many stars such as Amitabh Bacchan and Anil Ambani supported it by cleaning a section of the street nearby. This even received appreciation from Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself in his speeches and on other social media platforms.
